June Automobile

Post by Ian Grace »

The June issue of The Automobile has much of interest to us.

We got great editorial coverage for Pre-War Prescott in the Editorial on page 6 plus our advert on page 69. SV Minor CG 1140 is shown in the Auction News on page 19. This is the 2-seater that was being offered on eBay back in January. On page 49 there is a fascinating article by Tim Harding about Durham Motor Works, established by Henry Cocks, whose son Bernard took a wrecked OHC fabric saloon and resurrected it as a very sporty special. Clive Hamiton-Gould's Minor gets a mention by Peter Mc Fadyen in his report on the Light Car Welsh on page 60. Our Summer Rally is included in the Events Calendar on page 62 and on page 65, member John Pallister's '33 saloon 'Discovery' gets good coverage, but also brings the news that its number JF 4238 cannot be saved, and an age-related number is being issued. Bary Walker is offering M Type TF 3744 (2M/1690) in the ads - this car is recorded in the chassis register as being owned by Martyn A. Welburn of Chelmsford, Essex. Finally, there is an entertaining article by Matt Bell, two-time co-winner of the Lewis & Nicholson Trophy, on page 9 where he recounts the trials and tribulations of shipping his 1926 AC Royal from Australia. His story draws many parallels with my recent experience of shipping Minors to Seattle. Matt, and his father Nick (see pic of them both on page 60 in Matt's Chummy) will be with us in July, and it will be our job to wrest the L&N Trophy from him and his team!
