On your recent photo of your carb there is a pad with music notes on !
Can't quite focus on it but it looks like triplets ?
Are you composing a "minor" symphony along with your restoration ?
See you on friday !

Hello Tony,
You are right, that was trying to explain to a student that if you have two 1/8 notes following a 1/4 triplet the 1/8 note on the 3 beat feels more or less the same as each part of the triplet.......in jazz.....Bigband.
All thought I did some composing/arranging in the past I'd rather leave that to the people who are so much better than me!!
I am happy to conduct or play the music.
See you friday

progress report,
After a busy summer, work has started on VG and some progress has been made
The springs have been done by an 81 year old craftsman who did reset them to their original shape and strength. They are now ready for some more paint and binding with rope to keep the grease in and the dirt out!
I bought some modern rope(actually a sort of plastic) which looks absolutely right for the job and is used a lot on the fishing boats.
The chassis is back from being welded on (sorry Ken) and is looking great , straight and ready to be painted!
All the suspension points have been re bushed in bronze including the ends of the springs so that in the future getting rid of play is easy
Simon helped me with all new shackle pins, so all should be well in that respect.
I always try to get everything as good as new, to get the best out of the original design.
I also started cleaning the rest of the chassis/suspension/brake bits and so far things look good.
Next on the list is the king pins ( new bushes) and further cleaning so that the chassis is presentable for the Dutch VMR rally next year.
If you want to see it ,you'll have to come over
Regards Halbe

I just thought I would let you know that I find your updates very interesting and worthwhile. As for the welding - I was only passing on advice based on the inherent strength remaining around the corroded areas. I am sure that the work was done to a very high standard. I look forward to the next instalment!

Seconded!
Re: VG2007
Hello Ken,
I know you are right about the strength issue, but I could not leave it like it was.
Nobody would have noticed the little hole but it would have grown bigger and bigger in my mind , so I decided to have it repaired and have some peace of mind....

Re: VG2007
Hello steve ,
Drilling the holes is not an easy task, the steel is very hard
My machine shop drilled the holes (15,5 mm) and fitted the bushes , as they are a press fitting they will open up the eyes a little bit .

Re: VG2007
progress report,
Just finished the front axle , Mike Dowley suplied the bronze bushes , Thijs from the MG workshop ( http://www.mgworkshop.nl ) over here in Holland reamered them using the original kingpins.
The brake cables as well as the brake pulleys were found to be in excellent condition so they were cleaned and put back .
next on the list is the backaxle........
Lets see what that is like
Regards,
Halbe
