Oil issues

Post by Ian Grace »

I was finally able to drive my recently-acquired 1929 Minor tourer WE 6554 during our visit to England and I'm concerned about the oil pressure. I took it for a run of about 6 or 7 miles. Oil pressure at startup was a reasonable 60 psi, but this fell progressively over the trip until on return it was down to 12 psi and did not increase with revving. The calormeter confirmed that the engine was running perfectly cool.

I can think of a number of things to check before launching into an engine rebuild, but I thought I'd ask this hallowed forum for their thoughts as well.

The car is in Bromyard, so I'm also looking for suggestions for local specialists who I might be able to deliver it to for investigation.

I also drove my Semi-sports LJ 4435 for the first time after re-acquiring it. Oil pressure 100 psi on startup which is fine, BUT when I pulled up after about a 20 mile run, there was a pretty fast drip of oil coming from the bell housing drain plug. I'm suspecting (and hoping!) that its coming from the plug at the back end of the oil gallery in the block which will require a gearbox and flywheel removal to sort.
