Another 1928 'survivor'

Post by Ian Grace »

An early engine, radiator and chassis plate have turned up in Australia. Chassis number is 838, engine 930. According to the Genome, this chassis was the 13th driving chassis to be produced by Morris Motors. It was laid down 28th November 1928 and despatched on 3rd December. Although only parts, let's hope these parts find their way into a suitable project.

Previous chassis were: 106, 360, 378, 386-388, 424-428 and 828. Only two earlier cars are known - fabric saloon DO 7820 and tourer ST 5393, making this the earliest driving chassis 'survivor'.

This bring to eleven the total number of 1828 cars known to have survived. MM1413 was the last chassis to be laid down in 1928.

I should perhaps add that there is a major article coming in M 153 about DO 7820 - the earliest known Morris Minor. After more than a decade of searching for this car - it has now been found and the article recounts my visit to view it with the owner.
