MR Thoresby

Post by Ian Grace »

It wasn't only our Summer Rally that got soaked! These images courtesy of Peter Brock. There were eight Minors present, five owned by VMR members and the other three owned by future members!

There were actually 10 minors present at Thoresby during the weekend. Eight in the lineup, but there was also the pristine restored two seat tourer (RB6357) of Mick Roberts, and on Saturday we saw the appearance of the little fire engine (UD2682).

Thanks Martin,

Looks like the weather was a bit kinder on Sunday? Also nice to know the fire tender is now finally on the road. This is owned by VMR member Phill Robins and is ex-Pete McCall, the late Chris Holland, from whose estate Tony Gamble acquired it but passed it on unfinished.

Interestingly, this is a replica of the original UD 2682 which was used by Morris Motors at Cowley. Peter McCall claimed the registration from DVLA in 1984 - in the days when such things were possible!

Chassis number is M24126 which actually started life as a saloon at the end of April 1930.

Ian, it was on Sunday that we had the deluge. On Saturday we had a beautiful 90 mile drive to Thoresby on as many of the back lanes that we could manage. We then parked up for the night in the sun with Phil Butland baby sitting the car for me.

Then on Sunday morning as we left our motel it started to rain and continued most of the day.

My photos look almost identical to Peter Brock's with the rain lashing down. However, by the time we left on Sunday the weather had improved, so we had an equally enchanting drive home in the evening sun.
We are now looking forward to the Little Gransden Airshow with the two Lancasters and a Vulcan flying by. More on that later.

I envy you seeing the two Lancs together. We had to return home before the Canadian machine arrived.

They flew together for the first time today:
