Summer Rally and Pre-War Prescott 2018

Post by Ian Grace »

Planning is now well in hand for our 2018 Summer Rally and one of the tasks that has to be completed early on is to submit the application for RAF participation (aka the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight) to the MoD by the end of September. I did this this morning. Apart from one year (when I applied too late!) we have had BBMF support for every Pre-WarP Prescott.

I have also just heard from the Historic BMW Club that they plan to join us again in 2018 and I have had several enquiries from those wishing to enter, so I will be opening the entry list next week.

So we are off and running for 2018!

As of this morning, we have 36 entries for the weekend and it is nice to see that 20 of these are Register members. 6 Minors, 4 M Types, so Register member split 50/50 between Minor/M owners and owners of other pre-war cars.

All good stuff!

Our Summer Rally is next month! 122 entries with 11 Minors so far and counting. Right now, many hours are being poured in to planning the Sunday Navigation Rally and parallel Scenic Tour. A VERY secret and quirky lunch stop has been selected - not to be missed!

As of today, with six weeks to go to the day, we have allocated 375 climbs for Pre-War Prescott 2018, which means we have just 100 left out of the best-scenario 475 climbs that might be available – assuming no red flags and a steady flow of cars at the start line. As each pre-booked entry receives a free climb, and about 60 or 70 more entries are expected, we are in danger of running out of climbs some time before the day. In order to mitigate this risk, we will soon have to reduce the limit of the number of climbs that can be pre-booked, from three to two or even one. So if you have not yet entered and wish to book the current limit of three climbs plus a free one, may I suggest you enter without delay. If you post your entry to John Hicks (as opposed to entering online), do contact me with your entry details if you want to beat the climb reduction which will almost certainly take effect by next Friday, 15th June.

You have been warned!

Entries are coming in at a fantastic rate this week. 16 entries in the last three days alone. We're currently at 158 - well ahead of any previous year at this point. We're very likely so have 200 pre-war cars in the Paddock on the day - what better way to mark out tenth visit to Prescott! 14 Minors have entered so far, and i know of several more that are still to enter.

Chris Dunster now has the draft Sunday route and will be driving it this weekend.

Three weeks to go and we have a fantastic 175 entries so far - we're going to hit 200 by the day.

Also fantastic to see that 60 VMR members have already booked -that's nearly a quarter of our worldwide membership which now extends to 20 countries with the recent membership of Anders Ahlkvist from Sweden!

14 Minors are booked in so far - a very creditable entry, including Matthew Struthers who joined the Register with his 1933 2-seater today.

And we are JUST coming into the time window where the long range weather forecast is giving a reasonable view of what we may expect over the weekend. it looks like this hot, settled weather is set to continue through the rally weekend. Fingers crossed!

is there anyone out there planning to enter, or spectate, who has not entered yet?

Join us at Ye Olde Hobnails a week tonight!

A week tonight, next Friday evening, everyone is cordially invited to gather for our traditional Informal Reception for early arrivers, which usually includes a number of overseas visitors, so the evening typically takes on an international flavour. This year we will gather at the Ye Olde Hobnails Inn at Littte Wasbourne, just north of Prescott. Dating from 1473, this delightful inn is reputed to have been L T C Rolt’s favourite local. This is a brand new venue for us and comes highly recommended by local member David Hinds. All welcome from opening time onward and meals will be available until 8-30 p.m.
