Re: Brake bodges

I also saw it, so you you were not dreaming. Have not got time to hunt for it at present. MMM forum?

Where are you located? Might be able to help with one shoe and backplate.

Am at present undertaking a similar exercise. I am in the Welsh Marches.

Re: 3-Speed Gearbox Overhaul

John,

There must be a drawing about somewhere, have the end built up with "stelite" (spelling)? and reground to the spec. on the drawing.

Who can help with a drawing? Wouldn't mind a copy.

Re: 3-Speed Gearbox Overhaul

John, See my earlier posting regarding the condition of the ball, peg, etc. where these enter the box. Also the condition of the end of the rod where it meets the selector mechanism. I have fitted a remote which makes the gear changing a lot easier, however it rattles badly due to the warn bushes bo...

Felt seals on front stub axles.

How many felt seals should there be on the front sub axles.

The inboard ones fine, but should there be outer ones?

Some diagrams show them others not.

Philip,

Cams ground and hardened, from Sports & Vintage Motors at Shrewsbury are £ 29.38 inc VAT. (Nov 2011 price list) This sort of thing is usually ex stock.

Re: Brake bodges

Joining the tread as am undertaking exactly the same exercise at present having got fed up with dubious brakes. Finding all sorts of nasties. Super pictures, but are you using a reamer on the pivot that fits the back plate bushes? If so this might be part of the problem. The shaft if the pivot mount...

Re: 3-Speed Gearbox Overhaul

Hi John, Sorry that you are too far away to be able to visit you. I'm in the Presteigne area. Understand your reason for wanting a 3 speed box. Will take a look at a complete box that lurks in the back of my spares and refresh my memory of how the thing goes together, or more to the point comes apar...

Re: 3-Speed Gearbox Overhaul

John, Several points. Why do you wish to overhaul the box? Was it running ok, or are there faults when driving? If you have the top off, have you stripped the lever from its ball socket? What is the condition of the selector end of the lever, ball, socket, pin and groove? Problems start with wear on...

Re: New Years Day virtual pub meet

Lunch time New Years Day - nobody here!

I wouldn't be but have trapped a nerve in my back, can't work in the garage or drive to the local meeting.

Still things will improve.

Best wishes to everyone for 2012.

Re: Christmas virtual pub meet

Surprise, surprise Christmas Day and there's nobody here. They must all be in their garages/workshops preparing their cars for 2012! Hope that it is a good year and look forward to meeting other members at various meetings, especially Pre-war Prescott. Must get back to reaming some bushes. All the b...

Re: Improving M type brakes on OG 2438.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Have bitten the bullet and started from the front linings working backwards. Have found several horrors already, skimmed drums, worn cam shafts, loose bush housings etc etc all on a rebuilt car! Oh well a good Christmas holiday project! Have a pleasant Christmas...

Improving M type brakes on OG 2438.

I have a job to get 50% reading on the Tapley meter for my brakes, no way can I lock the wheels. May I have suggestions in the order that I go through the system to get some improvement. Linings and drums appear sound, cables nearly new, apparently not much slack in the system. What purpose do the a...

Re: New member needs a large OHC dynamo

I am at present looking into the use of LEDs for stop, rear and side lights - this should ease strain on the dynamo. Suitable 12v LEDs more readily available than 6v. Have converted with success a number of old bicycle lights, for use on my 1930/40/50s bicycles, to LEDs. In fact use modern LED cycle...
