Re: New Year's Day
Although the annual Barrington event was "cancelled" because the green was waterlogged we and many others still turned up. Parking was a bit mixed with moderns taking up lots of the available spaces, in the pub car park, village hall car park and on the road through the village. Beautiful w...

Re: New MoT proposal for our cars
Definitely no problem when the MoT has expired, I have just renewed on line and my MoT expired in October.
It is still possible to renew at a post office with a signed declaration, (downloaded from DVLA site) stating that the vehicle is MoT exempt.

Re: Original Minor batteries
The extra cable is not required, all that is needed is an earth strap between the gearbox and the chassis cross-member, a much shorter route, easy to fit and out of sight plus it does the same job.

Re: Autumn pub meet to celebrate the end of the MoT
It is strange at the number of people in favour of keeping the MoT test, the published results of the on line survey show that there were, from memory, about seventy individuals nationwide that bothered to take part, there now seems to be vast numbers that are in favour of keeping the test. Where we...

Re: Autumn pub meet to celebrate the end of the MoT
I wonder how many completed the on line questionare asking for their views on the stopping of the MoT test, according to the results published it would seem very few.
I believe anyone wanting their car MoT'd can still request it and it will be tested as normal.

Re: Distributor wobble
No I didn't add an extra earth,as the manual advance lever and linkage is still connected (but not operational) I am confident that this provides a more than adequate earth path.
My distributor was not supplied through S&V, it came from a VW tuning company in Scotland and was about £50.

Or is it gear selector position?

Re: Distributor wobble
I got over this problem by fitting "O" rings to the groove(s) in the distributor shaft housing to hold it central in the block.

Re: ReThreading studs
Helicoil or other makes of the same idea work perfectly and it doesn't take long to do, you get the "coils" a coil inserter and special tap, just a matter of drilling the block out to size and then tapping the hole and inserting the coil. You need to make sure that it all remains "squ...

Re: cylinder head
Surely the idea of a decent torque wrench is that it takes the guesswork out of "feel". " Feel" can alter depending on the position of the spanner and the position/accessibility of the nut being tackled, a torque wrench will always give the the same tightness.

Re: cylinder head
Having stripped the odd thread at 25lb/ft I now settle for about 22lb/ft. you will need to re torque quite frequently during the first 500 miles or so.

The CB3 is also 3/4" reach and although reaching the bottom of the thread it is still recessed in the head.
3/4" reach plugs were specified for the SV Minor but not for the '34 model.
