Re: KR 5670

Ian. Avoid the MGB battery. The beetle battery should be OK as I think that is what the 404 is. If possible get the 19 plate version. If you have any doubts check with Lincoln batteries. Sorry do not have their e-mail address to hand. I have two 404/19's in my Minors and have no problems but I have ...

Re: A Sprite

I had a 1959 Turner which was basicaly 948 cc sprite / A35 bits in a purpose made ladder frame with a fibreglass body which weighed 11 cwt and never did less than 48 mpg however hard it was driven. I did however break two cranks in it because there was a wide gap between second and third in the earl...

Re: KR 5670

Ian,

Went to a Hornet Special meeting last night. What was the date of first registration of KR 5670, as it may be one of the earliest 2 door Hornet saloon bodies to survive as very few of them have survived in such good condition?

Re: KR 5670

Ian, I think that the 404/19 plate battery from Lincon in the UK is in fact the same as that fitted to the early 6v VW beetles which you should be able to get in the USA. The MGB battery is not realy man enough and a bit of a waste of time. As your tubes are shot is it possible for you to get what i...

Re: starter problems.

What voltage drop are you getting measured directly between the battery terminal and the starter motor terminal or body. they should be very small indeed, fractions of a volt. I await the result of your tests.

Re: M22335 (1930) Minor Tourer (India)

I seem to remember an article in a VMR magazine about converting a 6v sparton klaxon to 12v, I think one has to rewind the field coils with twice the number of turns with wire with half the Area of the original wire. The Ampere Turns remaining the same.

I think it is the date on which the vehicle road tax has to be renewed or the vehicle put on SORN.

Re: starter problems.

You say that you have just rewired the car as 6v. Assuming that it was previously 12v I am assuming that you have checked that your starter motor is as 6v one!!!! You should be able to pick one up at Beaulieu.

I was correct the best battery is 404 - 19 plate

Re: starter problems.

Still in the library. Connect a voltmeter between the battery + post and the starter motor + terminal thread or nut and check the voltage drop when the starter button is pushed - it should be nil or very very small. If OK do the same from the battery - post and the body of the starter motor and do s...

Re: starter problems.

The MGB battery is not realy man enough. If you get the heavy duty version (19 plate) of battery number 404 from Lincon Batteries in Essex you should have no trouble in future. They advertise in the Automobile and come by courier next day dry with the acid in bottles only requiring filling and a lon...

Re: KR 5670

Well they would do wouldn't they (famous misquote) if the Hornet body was in fact the same as a Minor one. A volunteer is now needed to crawl under a Hornet saloon to see if the main sill timbers do line up the chassis rail. One volunteer is worth ten pressed men. :?

There is mention in Full Chat, page 11 in the August edition of the Automobile of the VMR and the Lewis - Nicholson award and reference to the number of Austin 7's compared with Minors at Light Car events.

That is the correct speedometer for OHC Minors as it has PC just above the needle pivot.

Re: KR 5670

Were early Hornets available in chassis form, you might like to check with Gaydon, if not where did the specialist coach builders (Patrick and others) get their chassis from. I will check with my list of Hornet Specials whether Maltbys actually bodied any Hornets. Is the body number on KR5670 a Mino...
