Re: VG 3260

Mike, The Bowden converstion as with later M types works well, but there are people out there with the original brake layout on their cars, as Ian will not doubt confirm. On the Minor it is difficult to get the full value from the Bowden cables as the mid mounting point is too high to get a good pul...

Re: Rear Axle.

The hub must be put on right otherwise it will work loose with probably quite upsetting consequences. If the bearing inner race does not get clapmed against the step in the axle case it will move about, as it moves so will the halfshaft and the drum and the wheel. It will damage the axle case and if...

Re: Rear Axle.

Hope thiese pictures help! I have just taken them, ok from the M type but the axle is the same. There are a couple of styles of hubs and it sounds to me like you have the later one but that someone has tried to put the felt washer on in the early place as well as a modern seal - from where I am it s...

Re: M type brakes

Your right there are two types of handbrake on the Minor and M type. The first was a transmission brake and should only be applied when the car is stationary other wise unspeakable thinks happen to your back axle! The other later type operated by pulling the brake cross shaft with the handbrake leve...

Re: OHC gearbox gears needed

Isn't noise normal!!

If you take a look on the Triple M forum you will find some discusions about gears and gearboxes for M types.

Wouldn't it be easlier to find another second hand 3 speed box?

cheers

Re: Fabric Couplings

I agree with Simon, pop a modern oil seal in, stop the oil coming out when you reverse into the garage. As Ian and Ian say bolting a plate to the three armed spider works as the joints on the hardy spicer can accomodate the length and angle changes, but this would not work the other way round. The c...

Re: Fabric Couplings

No problem Ian, I am sure the details now recorded will help in the future. from my exploration of the subject an increasing number of both Minor and M type owners are convering thier cars to hardy-spicer propshafts. There seem to be two approaches: Method one: Make discs to bolt to the 3 finger spi...

Re: Fabric Couplings

Unfortunately it does not look like this is a runner. Mainly as the numbers needed have not reach the magic figure so the price remains at £54, some people off list pulled out which is a shame. However all is not lost - I have continued checking with suppliers and can confirm that we can still get t...

Fabric Couplings

I have been trying to get replacement couplings as Sports and Vintage are out of stock. The Morris Register have them but at £55 which I thought expensive. Any way I have contacted a manufacture GMS and have the following details: I asked for a quote for the following: 5.5 inch outside diameter 4.5 ...

Re: Daft Question.

It is also to do with the petrol, modern pertols vapourise at lower temperatures, in our cars this causes a shortage of petrol reaching the engine in hot weather. If you add paraffin in the ratio of 1 part to 10 of petrol this will raise the vapourisation temperature and also lower the octain rating...

Re: Master chassis register

Ian, I'll leap in here as Ian G may not be checking this too often at the moment. I have just checked the chassis list and it is working fine for me. Across the bottom you should see a series of tabs, starting with Bullnose. This list is the one that opens when you load the file. This list only has ...

Re: Brake Pedal

Tony,

I have a brake pedal but it is from a late Minor with hydraulic brakes so probably not what you are after. I have a matching clutch pedal as well. Neither are in great condition must have been outside for quite a while.

Re: Pathe News

I had trouble at one point last night seeing the stills but then it suddenly started working again. It is well worth it. You can download free low resolution films as well, there is a great one about the making of a Morris engine, shows all the machine work and every thing. There is another showing ...

Re: OU 6930

Chris, Sounds ok then was worried that the make box said Rover! At lest the MOT certificate itself is right from our perpective. I remember a couple of odd instances in the past. An Austin Mini 1976 - listed as a Leyland and a 1986 MG Maestro (ok, ok, someone had to buy them) which was an Austin MG ...
