Re: FRONT AXLE WEDGES
Thank you for that. I shall have to make my own taper washers then - very bad practise to bolt down onto an inclined surface.

Re: Brake shoes - relining and repair
Ah! I had the same problem this morning. I am after a set of brake shoe return springs. I shall try telephoning him later today.

FRONT AXLE WEDGES
I understand there is a taper wedge fitted between the front axle and the springs of the vintage minor/ M type. This is to set the correct castor angle. My question is: is there a corresponding taper washer under the head of the bolts that clamp the axle to the front springs? If not the bolt head wi...

Re: Engine numbers
That is close enough for me, the vendor of my car told me the engine block dated from 29 and and I was just checking this is correct.

Engine numbers
The number stamped on the block of my engine is 7480. Any ideas about when this might date from?

Re: Tony Hallworth is selling his Hundred Pound Minor
Interesting. The advert says it has the same body as an MG M type! I am disapointed to learn my car has the wrong body fitted.

Re: Assistance required
My initial reaction would be to tell him to get knotted and he should not to publish any of the information that was previously sent to him.

Re: M type/ Minor differentials
Thanks for the advice, I wonder what other diffs will fit. I have a modern Morris Minor diff somehwere in the garage. I may see if that can be made to fit this weekend if I have a minute - need to get the other car ready for the Measham rally though.

Re: M type/ Minor differentials
Thanks Ian and happy New Year to you too! The chap I bought my car from has stacks of Minr bits rusting in the back of his barn. I might be able to get a diff from him. Is it possible to tell the ratio without taking the assembly out of the axle casing - is the ratio stamped on the casting or someth...

M type/ Minor differentials
Can someone tell me are Minor and M type differential assemblies interchangeable and what are the final drive ratios?
I am wondering about fitting a lower ratio as the car will be used for trials. I see four star diffs are availabe for MMM MGs, will they fit a M type?
All advice gratefully received

I was given a rather nice book for Christmas: The Wonder Book of Machinery, I found the attached picture in an article about large turbines:

Re: JV 291/MG 1930
Ok thanks, at first I thought it might be a datestamp for 3 October 1930. I see the steel castings at the end of the axle are stamped with a part number finishing with and F (for front) or R (for rear). It would be possible to build up the axle the wrong way round and have the left and right hand th...

Re: JV 291/MG 1930
Well, I am rather flattered by all the attention my car seems to be attracting. I was absolutely thrilled with the photos David was able to obtain copies of and the Motor Sport article Sam Christie posted. The pressure is on to get the car back on the road so that I can show it to Brian Demaus. Work...

Re: Website upgrade
I for one would welcome a M type specific area but the danger is it would simply duplicate the material on the Pre War Minor and Triple M websites. Not a problem in itself, it is good there is such a mine of information to be explored.
