Re: Gearbox product codes

Philip the model number '110' with the speedometer ratio of 4/17 was common on Minors after the introduction of the synchromesh gearbox in 1934. Trevor, your model '51' might have had a remote gear change in a Wolseley Hornet . Can you say what the speedometer ratio is please? I am in touch with a c...

Re: Gearbox product codes

The rear axle ratio might be another factor. The MG M-type and the MG D-type have the same gearbox and gearbox speedometer ratios but different speedometers because the D has a lower back axle ratio (heavier body?). The M-type has a PCN speedometer like the OHC Minor and the D-type has a PN. If you ...

Re: Gearbox product codes

I feel this thread ended well before its time even though it held out the hope of a comprehensive list explaining how to identify any gearbox likely to to be found in a Minor or an M-type (or on the garage floor). I have been looking at identifying 4-speed gearboxes again and asking some questions o...

Re: JV 291/MG1930

You would need to check if the number is transferable but I can't help thinking (personal taste) the best home would be on a 1930 MG which has lost its correct registration number. It is clear that your car has an obvious and genuine history and restoring the original registration number would compl...

Re: JV 291/MG1930

Amazing ! I have just received the following email - From c. 1948- c. 1962 he’s indeed showing as Royal Naval Volunteer Supplementary Reserve, but under the name “Anthony Brian Demaus”. Checking last name Demaus at Google returns a lot of books written by him on motoring. I suppose the “ Demans ” is...

Re: JV 291/MG1930

The name DEMANS reads like a misprint. The details on the RNVR site http://www.unithistories.com/officers/RNVR_officersD.html#Demans_AB were put up after I asked for details of Lieutenant A B Demans and I may have prompted a mistaken spelling on the site. The names Anthony Brian are probably correct ...

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/02469/hms-caroline-ship_2469576k.jpg Derek I was delighted to find the article for you thanks to the help of a friend. My friend noticed that the article was published in April 1948 and not March as I had suggested and he was able to forward a copy (I kno...

Re: JV 291/MG1930

It is a super article with an exceptional amount of detail. What we need next is a period photograph, preferably at Brooklands. What do you think Derek?

Re: JV 291/MG1930

I am informed that JV 291 is on the MG Triple M M-type register as chassis number 2M 2620 with a build date 17/2/31 and it was blue. Its first owner was Bert Frame who bought it in Grimsby. It is mentioned in an article in Motor Sport April 1948 when owned by Lt A B Denmans RNVSR. I believe I have t...

Re: JV 291/MG1930

It is a little ironic that the registration number MG 1930 has apparently never appeared on a 1930 MG. It is very clear that the original car to display this number is a 1929 example! http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2866/10838324426_2a96532343_b.jpg In the interest of correctness I wonder if it would ...

Re: M Type in the 1950s

The flaps may be practical but I can imagine them rusting the lower part of the guard, as in this case -

By the way this is my car shortly after I bought it......Note the 'knock offs'.
