Re: Rear wheel bearings.

I fitted my plastic seals with Araldite as they were a very loose fit. I quickly inserted the half-shaft to keep them centred whilst the Araldite was setting. They certainly work very well.

Re: Worn road spring eye - solutions?

May I mention shackles? These often need a spot of weld where the flat of the pin fits. If they aren't a good fit the shackle simply swivels around the pin instead moving it.

Re: KR 5670

Ian, re: oil pressure - was this 35psi hot at idle? My engine when really hot is usually around 25.

Re: KR 5670

Ian,
Re: the low oil pressure, would your engine have the early very small oil-pump gears? Perhaps this kind of pressure was normal for this pump as they are only about a 1/4" deep.

Re: KR 5670

Leaks are unusual, bolts breaking off is something else; after being untouched for 83 years I can understand you might be a little nervous. But if one does shear off, well, you are going to take the rad off anyway so the jobs half done!

Re: KR 5670

Sometimes it's easier to unbolt the outlet from the top of the head...It beats removing the radiator/bonnet etc.,etc.,and stays, and no doubt something else!

Re: KR 5670

Ian, Since your engine is presumably more or less untouched, and since you need to replace a side-plate, I would much like to know how thick the rubber/whatever gasket is. I have fitted S + V ones and seem to be endlessly tightening the bolts as the rubber is perhaps too thick and just keeps compres...

Re: M /Minor parts

Yes Ian, I thought it was about time I did something with it. So I'm going through what there is - this one will be back to cables and a three-speed box.

M /Minor parts

I am collecting parts for a rebuild, and at present I'm looking for two early M type finned drums, two rear spring hangers (for back springs - M or Minor) and an M brake cross-shaft. A set of road springs too.

Re: KR 5670

Good luck with soaking the linings in petrol to de-oil them. I never had much success with that and always found I had to re-line. I've also heard of people setting fire to them but I don't think that works either. Regarding brake pressure, because it's an uncompensated system no brake can be on mor...

Re: Bowden conversion of the Minor braking system

The brackets should be available from Sports and Vintage as they are common to other MGs. I can't work it out from their catalogue.

Re: Bowden conversion of the Minor braking system

Would it not be better to use the M Type configuration? This has brackets fixed to the top bolts of the steering knuckle and triangular plates bolted to the chassis for the rear end of the outer cable. The cables would need to be made a slightly different length as the M cross-shaft is further back ...

Re: Re-wire M Type

If you just remove the metal panel it will save having to disturb the steering column. You will need to unscrew the speedo drive at the back.

Re: A gearbox rebuild

Is this the ENV box as fitted to MG F Types? Perhaps it's an F engine and gearbox.
