Proof of value of smoke detectors. Glad all is well, hope you have recovered from the shock.

Derek, when you get to the chassis loose rivets are common!

Lot 954 HVA Auctions
This lot looks interesting. As the going rate for "M" types seems to be approaching £30 grand, at the estimated price looks a good buy. I know how the guy feels, I hope to have the one I have been rebuilding for 50 years will be on the road before too long! The Minor lot 967 looks a smart ...

Re: Antifreeze
Try and find friends to split a 25 litre drum with, it's far cheaper in bulk.
Negotiated a good deal (£60 inc vat) with my local branch of Motor World. They got a large drum in within two days.
Unfortunately they do not seem to have any branches North of the border.

Re: M type/ Minor differentials
From memory the numbers are stamped on the top of the aluminium nose.
However BEWARE all the carriers are similar and the innards could differ from the ratio shown on the housing.
Is it not possible to check the ratio by counting the number of turns of the input and those of the half shaft?

Re: JV 291/MG 1930
Yesterday at the local VSCC New Year meeting where everyone was in a modern car, (the weather was so foul with many local roads flooded) I sat next to Brian Demaus and talked to him about the cars he has owned. JV291 was his first car, this was replaced by the GP Aston Martin "Green Pea", ...

Re: JV 291/MG1930
Hopefully this thread creep story will be on going.
The thread now has very little connection with the original subject title. .
Would it not be possible to change the subject title, to - say JV291/MG1930, to move it away from the somewhat mundane subject of insurance?

Re: JV 291/MG1930
Yesterday afternoon I spent a pleasant hour and a half talking with Brian Demaus. He will be 90 in a few days time, as bright as a button and still smoking his pipe. He was delighted with the photo of HMS Caroline and is keen for both Caroline and JV291/MG1930 to be restored and is looking forward t...

Re: Website upgrade
A good idea Derek, would save having to hunt in several places.
Tend to forget where I have seen things that I later wish to refer to and waste time by going to several sites before I find what I am looking for.

Re: VSCC Cotswold Trial, this weekend.
Ian,
Sorry, marshalling duties at Prescott prevented me from getting near the action to get any photos.
Super day once the sun came out, event very well supported and great fun.

Re: JV 291/MG1930
I spoke to Brian Demaus this afternoon, he confirmed that the letter was his and that he was indeed the owner of JV 291 just post war. He has a number of photographs taken during his ownership. The Brooklands connection he thinks was wishful thinking but would be delighted to be proved wrong. I hope...

Re: Laid up vehicle insurance
Could there have been a misprint in the April 1948 Motor Sport by having misread the signature on the letter? Could it have been A. B. Demaus? If so I know A. B. Demaus served in the Royal Navy as an officer in WW2, owned an early Aston Martin with extensive racing history, formed the Humber Registe...

Thanks Ian,
Drawing clear, must review the whole lot tomorrow in the daylight.
Where did the drawing come from? Are there others?
