Re: Brake shaft bushes
I would make my own. I would also consider using ptfe or some other modern plastic bearing material. The loading on the bushes is relatively low so a plastic bush wil be fine.

Re: SV2612 - a restoration project in Sweden
The only obvious thing I can spot is the second leaf from the top projects a shorter distance from one buckle - the side closest to the viewer- than the other. The fourth spring down projects further. At least you put the axle on the right way round! when I did this on my M type I put the axle on th...

Brake cable to rear drum attachment
I wonder if anyone can help with telling me how the cables for the rear brakes on the M type attach to the rear back plates? The bracketry on my car appears rather home made and I would be intersted to see how it was originally done. David Hinds has kindly supplied some pictures of the arnagement on...

2014 Summer Rally
Ian Thank you for organising the event, pity about the weather but it did not spoil the weekend for us. I am sure the numbers were down because of the foul weather - we almost came in the modern but a model A can cope with pretty much anything and it came through without incident. The rally was great...

Re: Minor/M type wheels
Hmmm, I don't have the facilities to hot rivet and I don't imagine many people do. I replaced a couple of rivets on the Ford with long fitted bolts and a spacer tube - to increase strain energy in the joint. The rivets weren't loose, I drilled them out to repair a part they were holding in place.

Re: Minor/M type wheels
I intend to macine a weld preparation at the junction between the central tube and the rear flange then weld the parts together. Providing I can manage to make a good full penetration weld I think this should resolve the problem. Clearance for the welding torch is a bit tight but I think it is still...

Minor/M type wheels
Three out of five of the wheels of my M type have cracked wheel centres. The cracks are around the weld that joins the central tube to the rear flange. Made for cheapness of manufacture it is barely adequate and I suspect the cracks develop as a result of the wheels gradually going out of true and w...

Re: The Gilg Expedition - 80th Anniversary
Not much help to give really. I understand the film was held by Yorkshire Television -YTV. When the offices in Leeds closed down the films were transferred to the Yorkshire film archive: Yorkshire Film Archive York St John University Lord Mayors Walk York YO31 7EX T 01904 876550 F 01904 876552 E yfa...

Re: The Gilg Expedition - 80th Anniversary
Hi Ian I mentioned sometime ago that I believed there was a chance of tracking down the original cine film from the Gilg expedition. Well here is the update: the film is believed to be stored in the Yorkshire Film Archive. A chap that used to work at Yorkshire Television, and was actually involved i...

Re: Lot 954 HVA Auctions
The Minor sold for £6000 - looks like a good buy, the M type unsold. I hear the M type was just a pile of rust though.

Could the gauge be wrong? Might be worth trying another just for interest.

Re: Oil pressure and low power
Interesting stuff. To return to the original question about oil pressure though; too high a pressure is actually a bad thing I understand. I believe I have read somewhere that that this can "scour" the soft bearing material - in effect power wash it away!. Is the pressure reading taken dir...

Re: FRONT AXLE WEDGES
The taper wedge angle is 3 degrees. I have made some taper washers to go under the head of the bolts but I am not sure it was worth the effort, anyway the bolts will be pulling down onto a flat surface. Not a brilliant photo but the washers are spot on. Ian Harris supplied the wedges.
