Re: Shim/s under OHC head.

Thank you Ian.

Yes it is these shims that I am referring to.

I have just stripped a head that the sole way of controlling the mesh of the gears appears to be the thickness of the thrust washer "C"

Or am I still being silly.

David.

Shim/s under OHC head.

Begging my ignorance or stupidity what purpose do shims placed between the head and the vertical drive seal mounting serve.

ie. the unit in which the top yolk of the flexi drive oil scroll runs.

Am I overlooking the obvious?

David.

Re: Brake backplates for swapsies

Ian, if you can let me know what the pull-off levers look like I have some that are not M type. They could be what you want.

Have you seen item number 281142130655 on ebay?

Re: M Type in the 1950s

Ian,

Do you have any further details?

Interesting to note the large mud flaps fitted to the front wings/chassis. I am considering sorting out a similar arrangement as the quantity of mud that gets thrown up gets everywhere over the body.

There is an interesting photo to be found on http://www.classiclightweights.co.uk.

Is the car still in existence?

3 speed box and Derrington remote on Ebay

Ebay item 181098149342 might be of interest. Same vendor also has cam shaft mountings listed.

Re: Who designed the Morris Minor engine?

During the late 1960s and early 1970s there was a Wolseley Viper engine on display at The Science Museum in South Kensington. If chopped in half the resemblance to the ohc Minor engine was remarkable.

I don't know if it is still on display, or now hidden away at the store (rarely open) at Wroughton.

Re: New Year's Day

The meeting at The Harp at Old Radnor was well attended but no VMR cars were there. Having company we used the Alvis (4 in an M type is a bit of a squeeze!). Bill Piggott having sold both his M type and ohc Minor was there in a very smart Riley 9, one of four present. The light cars were provided by...

Re: Autumn pub meet to celebrate the end of the MoT

Should we be celebrating the end of the MoT test? Yes, the MoT test is an expensive inconvenience; however it being abolished for pre 1960 cars to my mind opens a whole can of worms. There are insurance implications, the prospect of restrictions on use, the views of car owners who have to have an Mo...

M Type exhaust silencer/expansion box.

I am making up an M type exhaust system, not being a purist, I propose to use a modern silencer/expansion box. I have a most useful and tolerant exhaust specialists locally who can normally find a modern box of approximately the correct dimensions and type. Was the original a straight through expans...
