Re: Midland Weekend 2013, 13th/14th July

Ian, After an indifferent summer, yet again, high pressure seems to have arrived and is forecast for the foreseeable future. Could be good for the two events!! Look forward to seeing you at "The Cock" on Friday having left home at lunchtime and aiming to reach Peatling Magna about 5'ish. I...

Re: BSF taps

Well done Ian,

It pays to support firms like this, not the cheapest but how would we look after our cars if they did not exist?

Re: BSF taps

www.namrick.co.uk do either individual taps/dies or boxed sets BSF 1/4" - 1/2", BA 0 - 10. My catalogue is an old one so no good me giving you prices.

Re: A gearbox rebuild

Ian,
Is it too late to get an extra set of these bearings. Thanks to Sam's photos I now find my box is a 4-speed all synchro, but at the moment it only wants to select 1,2 & reverse plus the gear lever feels like stirring a bowl of rice with a knitting needle!

Re: gearboxes

Thanks Ian, it seems the more we get to know about these cars the more there is to find out.
Has anyone had the splines on the input shaft successfully repaired and if so by who?

Re: gearboxes

Well that's answered the question, 4 a.m. normal time of awakening for old persons like me, and it suddenly occurred to me I could have a 4-speed box fitted. Crept out to the garage and yes it is, non-synchro version, so less original than I thought but not something I'm going to reverse. Now the ne...

Thanks Ian,
Do I recall that you wanted a brake/clutch shaft? Sure it was you but can't find the post anywhere.

Re: Midland Weekend 2013, 13th/14th July

Ian,

Any increase in numbers yet? Don't suppose it's worth running for six of us.
My minor will not be on the road this year, major engine rebuild under way so the 8 Tourer will be pressed into service again.

Crankshaft bearing size

The rear main size for the s.v. engine given in the morris register information manual is incorrect, should read 1 3/8" not 1 3/4".
Surprisingly enough this has been carried forward in each edition from 1965 onwards, not very observant are we?

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames

Ian,

I'm very disappointed that you prefer pictures of an 82 year old car body to photos of my 72 year old superbly functioning chassis!! However, no accounting for taste, I will dig it out tomorrow and post some pics.

Re: Hundred Pound ash frames

Ian, That sounds good, I have given up on the idea of a rolling restoration as I've removed the engine for overhaul after seeing the state of the bearings, and it seems sensible to remove the body whilst the engine is being done. I am hoping to keep the maximum number of original timbers especially ...
