Re: The Gilg Expedition - 80th Anniversary

Back in 2008 the master tape of the Yorkshire TV programme was held by ITN in Yorkshire. I exchanged emails with them at the time. I have no idea if they also hold the original cine film in their archive but it might be a good starting point. See this thread: http://www.vintageminor.co.uk/Forum2/php...

Re: Prototype SV Minor

Ian, Anders and Harry did close the loop. See the last para at the foot of the opening page of his article. The clear link to SV 5535 is there and the fact that it was sold second hand is also clearly stated. This was obviously all gleened from the Progress Books. The current owner in Devon was left...

Re: Prototype SV Minor

Quoted by Ian: "Harry Edweards visited this car in the nineties and was skeptical about its identity, since it was somewhat modified and carried the chassis plate SV5334". Ian, I have attempted to upload an extract of Harry's original Morris Register Journal article but the forum 'board at...

Re: Hood colour for Hundred Pound Minor

Not too sure what other corroboration you would need - but this extract is from the January 9th 1931 edition of the Light Car magazine and confirms the fact. Also take a look at the period photos that are available, although they are in B&W, they clearly show a light colour.

Re: Hood colour for Hundred Pound Minor

The official Morris colour is 'Light Grey' as described in the 1931 Scuttle-tank S.V. Minor brochure.

Re: The Morris Minor Genome

That piece of information is incorrect. For the last two months of their short production lives, both the S.V. Coachbuilt Saloon and £100 Two-seater were also available in blue, as well as in their launch colour of grey. The source for this info is the Morris Owner magazine August 1931 edition page ...

Re: ONCE IN A LIFETIME: TURN LEFT - THE RIFFS HAVE RISEN

Prior to the 2008 VMR Rally in East Anglia I contacted Yorkshire T.V or their successors who at that time still had the master of the 1978 TV film and were quite prepared to commit it to DVD for hire. The fee was something like £100 for a weeks hire and so I gave it a miss. Almost certainly it will ...

Re: KR 5670

The Wolseley Hornet was announced to the world in Autocar on 18th April 1930 and the Motor on 22nd April - so wouldn't have pre-dated 15th May 1930 by much.

Re: Finish on M type finned brake drums.

Ian(s), Read chapter two of 'Maintaining The Breed' by John Thornley and all will be revealed. RX 5971 is almost certainly 'Shinio' as detailed in this chapter and was the development car for the Double Twelve team cars. The MG Car Company first registered a number of competition cars during this pe...

Re: Hardy Spicer prop shaft question

Why not ask the A7 community - Bailey Morris have made many (scores) of them for this model. Which component is likely to cause more damage to diffs or gearboxes, an oscillating semi rigid shaft or a machine balanced and properly 'dampened' unit with universal joints at either end?
