Re: The VMR Magazine

Chris To clarify my earlier plea - I can download the Mag for viewing on screen, but I can't see how to download it into my PC (My Docs). I regret that I couldn't follow your instructions due prehaps to having a different tool bar. When I click on the second icon from the left (which could be a floo...

Re: The VMR Magazine

Thanks Ian and Chris. I decided to use Chris's method and it worked OK. Now I need to ask - please how do I download the Mag? I thought I would be able to work this out but failed. I viewed it briefly on line but I intend to keep the PDF files on a CD as I evidently won't be getting any more CDs fro...

Re: The VMR Magazine

I have just been unable to enter the Members Area. When I click on 'Member's Area' a box and background immediately :| appears to tell me that I have used the wrong password, even though I haven't been given the option of entering one. Is this just me or has anyone else had trouble today?

Re: MG M Type SC 6436

David I think you are right. Few Minors went as fast when new than they frequently do now! I must say that I often find myself travelling along faster than I would by choice to avoid holding up traffic more than necessary. When I turn off a main road onto a counry lane and relax and slow down, I fee...

Re: MG M Type SC 6436

Interesting: I wonder whether Type MM had a fundamental flaw - ie it leaked - and if Morris replaced old with new types under warranty? [Was there a warranty?] I guess that the cars still so equipped have had a very gentle life!

Re: MG M Type SC 6436

Ian Yes, it does seen odd that Morris effectively detuned the Minor when it changed carbs as I am fairly sure the inlet and outlet ends of SU carbs are normally the same diameter. Until this debate I had't realised there was a difference of 1/8 inch on the Minor one end to end. Even so it wouldn't h...

Re: MG M Type SC 6436

Funny how this one has developed into a debate on carbs! I am entering the proceedings late with an observation. Having agreed with the findings that the Minor side float chamber carb is 7/8 inches at the outer end and 1 inch at the manifold, I have just checked my Type MM integral annular float cha...

Re: Over restoration?

Hi Halbe - you seem to have exactly the right approach for your exceptional car. It is so difficult to restrain yourself when confronted with a job of renovation like you have taken on. There is an owner of a Standard saloon who enters VSCC - LC&ES rallies in an unrestored car and he has strong ...

Re: Steering Boxes

The Bishop cam boxes have more scope built in them for adjustment than the worm and wheel type, due to the ability to alter the depth of penetration of the peg into the sprial groove. A Morris Eight manual would explain all. However by now there probably wouldn't be much of this scope left to use af...

Re: Over restoration?

Chris - this one never gets resolved but it is fun tring to find concensus! Over restoration is to work towards a standard of finish bodily and mecahically that exceeds that provided by the manufacturer. With a car like the Norfolk Minor the purest view is to do the absolute minimum amount of disman...

Re: Lucky escape

Ian: good find! The polce image is taken at Hendon Police School and was published in a book I have called 'The Angry Thirties'. The copyright is held by Getty Images and I tried to buy a print. Unfortunately it would have cost at least £75 and so I didn't. If anyone has a print of this picture that...

Re: Radiator Water Level & the Overflow

Toby: I wouldn't use acid to flush out the rad unless you are prepared to spend hours soldering up leaks. I rather agressively hosed my rad inside and out a few years ago with water. The outside flush produced dozens of vintage wasps and the like. Some muck came out from inside but not much. I was h...

Re: Radiator Water Level & the Overflow

David, I don't think you need to worry about this. I haven't done so since 1965 when I first noticed it. I just let the water to settle to its natural level. The Calormeter shouldn't be taken too seriously regarding temperature either. I have two and they read differently! The one I use is the origi...

Chris
I seem to have posted the image differently to everyone else using the attachment facility within the Forum template.
I don't recall ever seeing a sv fabric saloon.
