Re: N5490

Until recently our local village shop had a spitfire engine used to weigh down the exterior fruit and veg stall along with a calthorpe axle and GPO morris 8 engine! The shop closed a few years ago but the engine is now stored safely inside. The owner unearthed it in the 1950s in a bog on Bodmin Moor...

VINTAGE MORRIS MARINE VEDETTE BOAT ENGINE

Nice boat engine - perfect for the minor owner to use in their boat. I seem to remember reading that features on the marine engine may have been developed in the 100 mile per hour brooklands engine. I think it was a Harry Edwards article in the Morris journal that suggested this. http://www.ebay.co....

Re: Identifying gearboxes

It doesn't sound easy then! I have seen cast iron gearbox casings on circa 1934 wolseley hornet saloons. All the ones I have seen, have the freewheel bit on the back.

Identifying gearboxes

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between a four speed crash and a four speed synchromesh from the outside? I'm trying to work out whats on my family 8. I can see from the morris information manual that there is a slight difference to the lugs on the alloy casting but without two for compa...

McEvoy Morris article

I'm not sure if this has already been mentioned on the forum. The VSCC website have had this advert for the January 2012 issue of 'Classic Cars' on their homepage news section for a few days. They state, 'VSCC members may be interested to read drives in the Morris Minor-based McEvoy Special'. http:/...

The Ashley Cleave Morris 8 Special

Not a minor but surely of interest. Barrie Carters advert in this weeks classic car weekly has the Ashley Cleave Morris 8 Special for sale. The advert says it is currently undergoing restoration and is vscc eligable. 'more awards and eligibility than any other car known' states the advert. It would ...

Re: A Swallow-bodied Minor

Just having a quick look for the articel in the hornet special club but haven't found it yet! Interestingly there is a picture of a swallow bodied M type on page 22 of the spring 1985 edition. It has a very similar but not identical body to that of the car in Ians posting. It is regisration LJ 965. ...

Re: A Swallow-bodied Minor

A picture of the car and a short article appeared in the Hornet Special Club magazine about 10 years ago. From memory the general consensus was that it was a Hornet Special Swallow body fitted to a minor a chassis. I will try and dig out the referance. Derek Tew has a similar swallow bodied hornet w...

Re: Uprated camshafts for SV Minors

I thought I had read somewhere that the 1934 head was was of higher compression but I'm probably getting confused. There's lots of mention of different cylinder heads in this article including: standard 'copperized', 'silvertop' and an alloy 'alta' used on a trials minor. http://www.minor.org.uk/Art...

Re: Uprated camshafts for SV Minors

On the subject of special heads; I have seen 1930s 'Alta' heads for both the minor and the morris 8. The ones I have seen are all cast iron. I've no idea if they are any good though. There were loads of different heads available for the Austin 7 but most owners today still seem to prefer the standar...

Re: Pre-War cars and the VSCC

looking at the vscc list of events. Presumably side valve minors may be eligible for bginners in:
The Measham Rally
Northern Rally
Central Rally

Presumably they wouldn't be eligible for the Vintage Welsh Weekend or the Light Car and Edwardian Section Rally.

So three possible events.
