Re: NV 2803 - 1933 McEvoy Special

On a McEvoy the job of tappet screws will have to be properly done. On bog standard s/v enginges I put the tappet swcrew into my pillar drill and pull it down onto an oil stone (well loil;ed) makes a very good job and I have never case hardened them and they have lasted long enough for me (10,000 mi...

Re: A Swallow-bodied Minor

I was stopped the other day by a chap who thought my 1927 Humber was a 1927 Fiat Swallow!! His Father owned one and my car looked the same. The body on my Humber is a two-seater with a dickey and rounded back (like an Alvis Beetle Back). I sent a photo to you once - can you reproduce it - if not I w...

Re: Long distance Minors

I have just returned from my bi-annual trip to Crimond in Aberdeenshire from Epsom in Surrey. Round trip of 1200 miles. Called in to Gary in Kendal and saw some of his wonderful work and a welcomed cup of coffee. Never saw one vintage car on the whole trip. Came home from Dunblane in 6 and 1/2 hours...

Re: N5490

Most interesting. A.J. Whittemore (Aeradio) Ltd, Croydon would have been on the old Croydon Airport, Purley Way, Croydon. I started work at Bowaters Packageing in 1960 who owned part of the old runway - small world. Highlander.

Re: JF 4238 1933 Minor Saloon

I do not know if you are a pannel beater but I would think cutting the bonnet top x 2 and the two sides and the hinges would be a lot harder than opening out the two holes on the chassis. I would try it and if you dont like the result nothing has been lost. On our type of cars the bonnet must fit we...

Re: Long distance Minors

Ken, and the Minor Gang, - Dont mention 1966!!! World Cup Final Day (a Saturday) I set off with the family, wife, two very young daughters (Rosie was a baby) and a collie dog to travel the 130 miles to Swanage in Dorset from Ewell in Surrey. I was driving our 1927, 12/50 Alvis Saloon. I was in convo...

Re: Long distance Minors

I was not trying to be a champion long distance vintage motorist!! Motoring to get somewhere on holiday i.e. Aberdeenshire is different from being on holiday and sightseeing. Sometimes we only had a week's holiday so left whenever we could on the Friday night and got as far as we could and then cont...

Re: Long distance Minors

This is my 54th year of motoring in cars and motorcycles. I have travelled from Surrey to north east Aberdeenshire over 50 times. That is 650 miles door to door. In modern tin wear it takes all day i.e. 10 hours. I have done it in two whole days in an Austin 7 (1927), a 1927 Humber 9.20hp, a 1923 an...

Re: KR 5670

Looking back to page one of this 'blogg' and seeing again the wonderful photographs of Goodwood in 1960s I would 'restore' to that condition and leave the wings off the callometer. Side lights are easy to get. Wish you luck and I wish I could help. Highlander.
