Re: IA 9142

A little more progress with screen on and hood being fitted. The doors are currently trying my patience, but I'll get there! Anyway the pics tell the story.
Regards to all, Mike.

Re: IA 9142

The seat patterns were very useful, thanks Ian. I'm probably going to use half round aluminium for the rear number plate bracket, the correct size in mild steel is no longer available. One door done, the other in progress. The pictures tell the story, at least I can work on the doors in the warm! Th...

Re: The VMR Magazine

Magazine received today, looks excellent and I'm looking forward to a good and informative read. Thanks also for the very comprehensive blueprint for the s/sports seat back, and the pictures on cd. These are already proving to be very useful! I'll post some pictures when further progress is made. Re...

Re: IA 9142

Progress update! The rear wings are on, and the dashboard trial fitted. The interior panels are being progressed, and the seat base and back largely formed. The back needs further work to form the sidescreen box at the rear. The doors are progressing, slowly. They are taking a great deal of time to ...

Re: IA 9142

Ian,
Thanks for that, will be very useful. I believe the back and base were made of 1" ply, another material to source!
Many thanks again,
Mike

Re: IA 9142

I thought it was time to post an update report. The body has been finished underneath, and is now being fastened to the chassis. Now to tackle a long list of further jobs!

Re: IA 9142

Ian,

I've twice tried e-mailing you recently, with no response. I'm wondering if I am using the correct address!

Regards, Mike.

Re: IA 9142

Well progress has been slow but steady. Among my distractions are the restoration of a BR Mk1 carriage on the Spa Valley Railway, but that's another story! The calico covering on the lower body didn't work out very well, so off it came to be replaced by aluminium, which worked well. This has then be...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, Thanks, the data will be very useful. The build is progressing as you can see from the photos. After work on the frame it had two coats of paint and is now getting its aluminium covering. Another question for you concerns the pin beading. You gave a good account of how this was to be put on in ...

Re: The Gilg Expedition - 80th Anniversary

Ian, Just to say thank you for all the trouble you are taking in transcribing the Gilg diary. It really must be a labour of love, and makes for a great read, very entertaining. You have to admire the spirit with which this journey was undertaken. The diary tells of a past age, a real piece of histor...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, A drawing of the seatback with dimensions would be ideal, I don't think mine can be original as it doesn't have any holes for the side screen pocket which is non-existant. So anything you have in this area would be appreciated. Also anything on the spring units would be very useful. As you can ...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, Some progress to report. After some time spent fettling the rear wing openings the wings now fit quite well, see picture. I have now commenced the priming/undercoating of the frame, starting in the wing sections, see other picture. This will take some time. A couple more questions. I'm about to...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, Sorry to trouble you again, but the rebuild of this body continues to throw up lots of questions! Could I ask you firstly what grade and thickness of aluminium did you use for the body skinning? Did you skin the bottoms of the bulkhead both sides and the doors and just behind the doors in ally ...

Re: IA 9142

009.JPG Thanks for all the advice, it sounds as if covering the doors are going to be fun! The original (?) metal strips are bent outwards at the leading edge to assist in the door fouling issue. I've just been through your s/sports restoration cd again, lots of questions about that but for another...

Re: IA 9142

Ian, Thanks for that, you're right there is a piece of felt under the tail as you describe. I guess someone decided to improve upon that design!! Now that we have established that the mesh is original I thought that I would try you on the doors. I have uncovered this metal interlaced structure which...
