Re: SV Minor Rear Camshaft bearing

Hi Paul I've seen several of these roller bearings where the brass cage has come apart or broken up. Nearly always due to excessive wear and lack of lubrication. It's a design issue. The bearing has a retaining plate which tends to block off the oil splash. Probably easiest (although that's relative...

Re: Two Door Saloon (OHC) KJ 1664

Hello Phillip Sorry to hear you haven't been able to get the car started. And I realise you may have reached the end of how far you want to go with it. My knowledge of the OHV Minor engine is minimal as my SV engine is different in many respects. I'm reliably informed that the flywheel on the OHV ca...

Re: Two Door Saloon (OHC) KJ 1664

Another image that shows the usual distributor orientation for No. 1 cylinder with a DJ-4 distributor. Your car may be different but if the firing order and plug leads are correctly connected it will work whichever way it's set. On my car the distributor is turned so the rotor arm is at 1 o'clock ra...

Re: Two Door Saloon (OHC) KJ 1664

Hello Phillip Sorry to hear your woes. Carburettor service kits are available from Burlen SU in various combinations. The basic washer, gasket and jet kit is a good staring point. Just input the carb model on their website. Most of the washers are fibre and there's a metal/fibre washer sandwich betw...

Re: Two Door Saloon (OHC) KJ 1664

Nice motor Philip. Very frustrating. It will come as no surprise that anyone with a vintage Minor has been there ! If Ian Harris hasn't got the parts you need there are a several other places to try. Condensers can be found here... and any other distributor parts. Just let them know what model distr...

Re: Two Door Saloon (OHC) KJ 1664

Is there a spark at the plugs? Take one out, clean it and connect an earth to the plug body, reconnect the plug lead. Make sure car is in neutral. With ignition on turn the engine on the starting handle and look for a spark. If so refit the plug. Disconnect the wire to the fuel pump and secure it to...

Re: Beamish Reliability Run

The Northern Echo has 103 photos of the Beamish Run participants, pictured at the Bowes Museum checkpoint. https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/17709914.back-on-the-road-again-for-49th-beamish-run/ I saw their photographer too late to wave, and my navigator was studying the route (not sleeping!) h...

Beamish Reliability Run

The 49th Beamish Reliability Run on Sunday 16th June 2019 saw one Minor achieve a long-held ambition to complete the course. 9 hours driving and 150 miles of tortuous hills and dales in North Yorkshire and County Durham. One of the checkpoints, opposite The Rose & Crown at Romaldkirk, might be f...

Re: A few questions

This may not apply to your car but I think this is what the pedal spring bracket looks like. Mine was missing and so I can't be sure it's correct. However I've seen similar ones on other Minors. The rounded large end gives it a bit of adjustment and the option of bolting it on either side of the fla...

Re: A few questions

The long spring gives smoother control of the throttle pedal.
I've tried a shorter one and it tended to 'bounce' especially when on uneven roads (of which you'll have plenty no doubt !)

Re: A few questions

To add to Ian's information... Here's the master switch/ starter button arrangement on my 1934 Minor saloon. It may be quite different to your car, but might help in planning a layout. The long throttle spring is attached to a hole in the operating arm at one end and a projecting piece on the starte...
