Three Speed Gearbox 2nd Gear Rattle

Gearbox Rattle - Some might think I might be the world’s most experienced Morris 3 Speed Box renovator but read on: Recently I renovated my gearbox with new phosphor bronze bushes and best gear clusters I could find. Also new layshafts amongst other bits fitted. When on the road, in 2nd Gear, a loud...

Prescott One Day Visit - Lift From London - A Wish

Hi, Anyone going to Prescott for the day? I have no car so would appreciate a lift (share fuel) if anyone is going from the London area. I live in Putney.
Please call 07745974084 - I can take an early bus or tube to near where you depart?

Dynamo OHC 12 Volt

I am restoring an MG J2. The Engine Block is an 'M' Type. I understand I can replace a 6Volt dynamo with 12volt field coils. The casing of my Local 12v has been severely ground paper thin at one end and a braze repair is on the top casing. A REMAX dynamo would be more desirable but Lucas will do.

Re: Oil pressure and low power

Returning to this old post of 2014, I have something more to add. First as originally an Instrumentation Engineer, I can confirm my pressure gauge that has a top range of 160psi and is in calibration. Two months back I decided to flush the engine oil; I used WYNN'S Flushing additive additive accord...

Compression Tests & Fuel Consumption on OHC Minor

I have recorded my fuel and mileage since my car was returned to the road 9500 miles ago and on average I only get about 27MPG, is this normal? I have taken compression dry and wet tests several times and the most recent cylinder numbers & results in PSI are: No 1 - 75, No 2 -80, No 3 - 78, No 4...

Re: Fabric Joints

I pay considerable attention to the prop shaft alignment and Fabric Coupling discs. Do not assume that the Fabric Disc is there to take up any alignment errors unless you never travel faster than 25mph. At 40mph+ (down hill) if you get increased vibration then the Prop Shaft Assembly is the most lik...

Re: OHC Minor fuel taps - how to stop leaking

The key is to first make several the cork gaskets and then soak them in oil for several days. Actually I keep a small sealed jar for corks in oil for the petrol tap and SU Carb. Actually my current tap cork has sealed for some 7 years and I always turn the tap on and off.

Tonneau Cover for 29 Minor 4 Seat Tourer

I want to order Double Duck material to have a tonneau cover made for my Morris. My Car is currently in Cape Town and I am in UK so I can't take measurements. Would one of the 1929/30 Minor Tourer owners please measure, when the hood is down, the distance from the rear body around and behind the hoo...

Re: Gear selection esp 3rd & 4th!

Barry, I discovered that the system limits me to 5 pictures so here are the next two of my 29 Minor 3 speed gearbox lever after TIG welding and nickel plating. Looks pretty and now will not rust either.

Re: Gear selection esp 3rd & 4th!

Hi Barry, happy to help but I am a 'world expert' on 1929 Morris Minor Three Speed Gearbox. Seems yours is a 4 speed. Mine used to jump out of gear if cruising in top and when taking foot off the accelerator it would jump to neutral. I did several things so cannot state which one or many solved the ...

Re: Aids to help the reassemble of 3 speed clutch and gearbox.

Last time I refitted the gearbox I cleaned the spigot shaft so that it easily slid into its mating bearing. Yesterday I removed my gearbox and it came out like a dream, just pressed the clutch pedal and out it popped. The best approach is to obtain a redundant spigot shaft for precise alignment. Ano...

Re: Aids to help the reassemble of 3 speed clutch and gearbo

Actually fitting the gearbox is a one man dream job if you have a spare spigot shaft to ensure the clutch plate is in place if that is replaced. I have found that the standard mandrel is not sufficiently precision to align the clutch plate perfectly. First check that the spigot shaft is a perfect fi...

Gearbox 3spd Jumping out of top

I recently overhauled my gearbox as I had to use a new casing (long story). With my old gearbox I do not recall it jumping out of gear. After refitting the 'new, box it runs fine but every so often it jumps into neural, some times when decelerating or going over a bump. I subsequently removed the to...
