Re: Oil pressure and low power
Returning to this old post of 2014, I have something more to add. First as originally an Instrumentation Engineer, I can confirm my pressure gauge that has a top range of 160psi and is in calibration. Two months back I decided to flush the engine oil; I used WYNN'S Flushing additive additive accordi...

Re: Compare the gearboxes
In August I had to obtain a new three speed gearbox housing. What I obtained had one difference to mine original. The top cover as in your Nos 2 and 3 show a deep grove while No1 has a smaller groove that seems to be caused by the bracket that supports the drum brake. I do not know if the there spee...

Re: Rear wheel bearings.
Back in 1971 I fitted the helical cork in the Half-Shaft housing along with a sealed bearing but then followed the original Morris Hand Book by the late Harry Edwards (that John Nagle updated). In 2016 I decided to replace all the wheel bearings as I reckoned the 'sealed for life' bearings had done ...

Re: Smiths Shock Absorbers
Hi Bruce, frankly the Smiths Shocks are more for decoration than functionality. I restored mine by weld brazing around the drums that were severely worn and grooved then machining them nice and smooth. You will probably find the mild steel cover plates are very worn around the edges from contact to ...

Re: A gearbox rebuild
Hi Ian, I was looking at this despite being 3 years back so what happened? Did you strip the box or not? As you have seen from my articles it is not so difficult to sort out. The plastically deformed splines on the spigot shaft do not look serious, quite normal considering all those I have seen. The...

Speedometer Gear Box B=Drive Assembly 1929 Minor
I urgently require the complete assembly of the speedo drive gear from the gearbox for a 1929 Morris Minor with three speed gearbox. I suspect the three and 4 speed are probably the same. If the assembly is in working condition that would be great. Kindly respond at your earliest convenience to hill...

Re: Gear selectors, urgent advice needed
I think you mean the central semicircle slots in the central rod, they are where the gear lever fits. If there is a ball it should have a spring.

Re: Rear wheel bearings.
Hi I was trading through the Forum. I have just replaced the 'Sealed Bearings on all wheels on my 1929 Minor that I first fitted in 1971! I decided that 'sealed for life' takes on a new meaning at my age but reckoned that the lubricant would have aged. Frankly bearings are cheap as chips for the dut...

Re: Gear selectors, urgent advice needed
Hi Barry I did not disassemble the gear selector assembly on my 29 Minor with 3 Speed gearbox. See additional pictures showing the top cover from plan and side view. Refitting the balls would I imagine would be achieved by using a dummy rod. I think you could use the 'centre' rod as it does not seem...

1929 Minor Wheel Brake Back Plate
I am looking for one redundant wheel backplate that holds the brake shoes (any condition). I want to use this to create a tool so that I can grind new brake shoe linings to precisely fit the profile of the brake drums thus avoiding any 'running in' wear so the brakes are effective from the onset. Re...
