Re: The Two Hemispheres Rally

Ian this all sounds fantastic.
However you say "Not a particularly steep climb, but a steady one over about 20 miles, the steepest part being the last couple of miles which are perhaps 1 in 10".
I do hope that this is not 20 miles in 2nd gear or we'll need to pack the ear plugs!!

Re: UF 7090 1930 Coachbuilt Saloon

Well we had a bit of SUN!! on Thursday, so after all the tinkering with tappets, yet more brake adjustment and fixing an intermittent connection to a headlamp, I thought it was good day for a little run. Even more so as Jean had a house full of her friends celebrating a birthday and I needed a good ...

Re: SV2612 - a restoration project in Sweden

I notice that there is a 1932 Minor on Car and Classic together with a "spare" engine.
Maybe the seller would be prepared to do a deal for the engine only.

OHC Tappet clearances

I was Just having a look around the engine by way of a general inspection after the long run last weekend. Good news compression is 75psi on each cylinder so that's excellent, the ignition is set up well now that I have removed the the oil from the distributor and installed rubber boots on the HT le...

Re: Assistance required

Ian, this Dean does seem to be a rather discourteous person - maybe under pressure of publishing deadlines!! What exactly is the help that is needed to produce production information? If it is looking through the genome or something simple then I could do that, but I have broadly similar sentiments ...

Re: Rear wheel bearings.

Postscript. I checked the back axle and gear box oil levels yesterday and both are fine. Level is just to the bottom of the filler thread on both. So no oil in the axle must mean that the nitrile lip seals were doing their job and with the axle scrolls I expect even more security. As far as the gear...

Re: UF 7090 1930 Coachbuilt Saloon

We had our first outing of the year and it was quite an adventure on a cold sunny day. We joined the Leicester and Northants Morris Register Noggin run to Duddington for Sunday lunch. However, our carefully planned route was right out of the window due to road closures and diversions so we saw rathe...

Re: Planning for 2014

My entry for PWP is in the post today - not the first I know, but hopefully not the last either. Hope to be spending the w/e in the Cotswolds at Bourton-in-the-Water with our friends of the Oxford tourer, who will also join in I'm sure. So we are all looking forward to a grand day in the sun - is th...

Re: Rear wheel bearings.

Just to note that it didn't occur to me that the ring nut might not pull the bearing into place. It seated down very solidly as I tightened it up so I did not try on the brake drum, but a good tip in future. I too have opted for belt and braces; sealed bearing, axle scroll seal, a lip seal in place ...

Re: Stub axle & king pins

Regarding clearance, I have 15thou on one side and 20thou on the other. This is a bit much but perhaps not excessive. The advice I was given was to "pack with shims on top of the axle beam till no free play is apparent but no resistance appears when turning the stub axle". So your grinding...

Re: Rear wheel bearings.

Job completed and for completeness it seems reasonable to include the final set of photos to record this job. I bonded the axle seal to the axle tube with slow set Araldite with the drive shaft in place as it set as suggested by Ian Judd. Needed to dry out the paper gasket in the oven as it seemed t...

Re: Planning for 2014

Thanks Ian, I'll see if I can drum up any more support.
Incidentally the PWP pages and entry form are a bit confused over the date of Sunday 20th July and often refer to it as the 21st!
An extra day would be great if it could be fitted in to the same 24hrs.

Re: Planning for 2014

Hi Ian, are those with pre-war cars, but not members of the participating clubs, allowed to join in the day on the same terms as VMR members? In particular a member of the Bull Nose Morris Club and VSCC with 1927 Oxford?
